HomeStay, Nainital, Uttarakhand

This homestay in Nainital is envisioned as a contemporary hillside retreat that responds sensitively to its natural context while offering a refined hospitality experience. The architecture is articulated as a series of stepped volumes that follow the natural slope, minimizing visual and physical impact on the terrain. Locally sourced stone, warm wood finishes, and expansive glazing create a balanced façade that feels both grounded and transparent. Large balconies, glass-enclosed lounges, and carefully framed openings ensure uninterrupted views of the surrounding forests while allowing ample daylight and natural ventilation into the interiors.

The design is inspired by the vernacular architecture of the Kumaon region, reinterpreted through a modern lens. Sloped roofs, stone masonry, and layered terraces echo traditional mountain dwellings, while contemporary materials and clean detailing lend the project a modern identity. Conceived as a place of warmth and quiet luxury, the homestay offers guests an experience where comfort, nature, and local character coexist in harmony, creating a serene escape rooted in Nainital’s landscape and culture.
